SummerHill is a place in Pennsylvania’s Amish country. Merry Hanson is a Fifteen-year-old girl who lives across the street from the Amish country. She is a strong believer in God and believes in prayer. At first, her friend Lissa is abused by her father and she comes running to Merry. Merry hides her in her house until she has visitors so she turns to her best friends family. Rachel Zook is her neighbor. Rachel’s family’s welcomes Lissa in with open-arms. Lissa even enjoyed being Amish for as long as she did. but they found out where Lissa was hiding and her dad began to get better.

Then, meets someone at school who no one wants to be around. his name is Elton. He is mentally disabled so everyone at school think Merry is crazy for hanging around him. Elton was upset when Merry returned a picture he drew of her.So he set the picture to fire but was caught and questioned by the cops. So when Merrys friend Rachel’s farm was being vandalized she wanted to try and catch the person. So Rachel, Levi, and Merry setup to find him. Well while they are sitting in the barn they realize it is on fire. They quickly run out but Merry spots a cat in a window upstairs. She is determined to go and get it. she runs and before she knows it the barn starts falling. she is dragged out by an unknown figure and she doesn’t wake up until she is in the hospital. When she awakens she finds out that Elton was the one who saved her and the pictures he took of the barn caught the criminal.

Then Merry had a twin until she was seven and she died. But, while catching fireflys Susie zook runs in the roads and goes in a comma. Merry quickly is run over with the thoughts of her sister dieing and now Susie might. Susie awakens the comma after Merry reads the bible to her everyday with Susie’s brother Levi.

An old truck keeps driving by Merry’s house. Hen then asks if a doctor lived there which was Merry’s dad. Then the next time he came he came with a woman yelling at her saying they have no choice and quickly drive off. What the man left was a baby. Merry at first was going to hide the baby but she couldn’t. So then her parents said they would keep her until social services could come and get her.But her Amish friend across the street were having a problem. Sarah and Curly John were expecting a baby. Sarah cant have children and it would be looked down upon if she didnt have any. So Merry wanted baby Charity to have a home like the Zooks. So her new mom was Sarah and Curly John was her dad.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves God and is infavor of prayer. It teaches you the meaning and actions prayer takes. And it bestows the goodness of friendship and the greatness it holds.

Animal Farm By: George Orwell

Animal Farm is a new name for the Manor Farm. The farm is taken over by animals who think anything that walks on two legs is a disgrace. Theyf eel that they work harder than mankind but man takes everything for themselves. After a well respected pig spoke to the farm of a dream he had it brought the idea of rebellion among the animals. They run-off their previous owner Mr. Jones and begin to work for themselves. The farm is then ran by the pigs. They hold the meeting and end it with the song Beasts of England. The animals then added seven commandments. But later on in the book they begin to become altered. The book shows that there is a always a leader even when they aren’t good or bad. That people can be easily convinced and the mistreatment the animals feel.

In this book i liked how it showed that when you believe in yourself you had do anything but i didn’tlike the way they put down humans. Or how Napoleon and Squealor would make themselves be the “good guys” while really they were only thinking of themselves.

I would recommend this book to everyone. It shows strong leadership and you see what its like to work hard. Do you think animals could really run a farm?

To Kill a Mocking Bird

                The classic noel To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee is a prizewinning piece of strong southern literature. The book was very engaging. It showed racial issues, sense of place and southern dialect. I liked how it showed how everyone knew their neighbors.It showed that no matter what happened to you, you always belonged somewhere. Even with the court case between Tom Robinson(a negro) and the young white lady accusing Tom of raping her(Mayella Ewell), they showed Tom had his place and Mayella had hers. Then Scout and Jem were siblings who were always together. Their father Atticus, who was defending Tom in his court case, showed a strong bond with is children showing their place was with Calpurnia and the family. Then also the towns misfit (Arthur Radley) is watching out for the kids and is taken with Scout as she walks him to his house hand in hand.
              The thing i disliked most was the courtcase. The key facts proved it was Bob Ewell who beat his daughter not Tom. Knowing all the evidence the all white jury still said that Tom was guilty because he was a colored man. I wish he could have been given a fair trail but with it being in the deep south and was before the civil rights movement no one would want to side with a negro.
              I would recommend this book to everyone. It changed the way i saw the south and the treatment of blacks. This book is a true eye opener. Everyone should read it.

I have never used a blog for a class assignment before. With this, I believe it will expand my understanding of the literature i have enjoyed. Having the ability to read other people’s opinion of the novel will give me new points of view and understanding of the story through others eyes. I look forward to using this to share the knowledge of the books i have comprehended. I predict that other users will see the way other people see things different from their point of view. Writing can be interpreted in many different ways, but seeing how people react is an eye opener.
